Meeting on the possibility of cooperation in terms of training for the benefit of the organic sector in Sousse

A meeting was held with Mr. Bechir Rjiba, representative of the regional continuing training unit of Sousse, and Mr. Hassan Letaeif, president of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (URAP) of Sousse, in the presence the general manager of the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) and a group of engineers from the center, on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the headquarters of the CTAB, on the possibility of cooperation in terms of  training for the benefit of the organic sector in Sousse.

Call for applications for specialist tasters on the occasion of the third edition of the Tunisian Local Products Competition

Training session on organic beekeeping

The Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB), in cooperation with the Regional Commissioner 
for Agricultural Development in Ariana and Manouba, has participated in the organization and
the
animation of a training session on organic beekeeping on September from 8 to 10, 2021 at The National
Pedagogical Institute and continuous Agricultural Training in Sidi Thabet.
CTAB engineers Ms. Sonia Halouani and Ms. Sondes Hebali have participated in the animation of this training
session that focused
on the following themes :

- Organic beekeeping techniques

- Melliferous plants and their effect on beekeeping

- Organic methods of controlling bee diseases and pests
- Honey quality standards

- Processing of organic honey and hive products

Information day on “organic farming techniques and compost production”

As part of the supervision program of organic operators, an information day on "organic farming techniques and compost production", organized in coordination with the Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development (CRDA) of Sidi Bouzid for the benefit of organic operators and « Ladies First » Association, Thursday June 10, 2021 in the composting station of the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB).Ms. Hanem Grissa, Director of Training and Studies in the CTAB, presented two interventions about « organic farming techniques » and « organic compost production » and animated a practical session about compost production.

Resumption to the training of multipliers in the framework of "Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa, KHNA" project

In the framework of the "Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa, KHNA" project, we are pleased to announce the resumption of trainings for multipliers. We will continue the training of “Communication Techniques & Leadership” to participants from the Northern part of Tunisia, from September 29th and 30th. Participants will be informed about the location and details of the training in the upcoming days by email and phone.

For the multipliers that belong to the Central and Southern regions of Tunisia, we are preparing the program of the second training session which is designed on the theme: "Production techniques in organic mode". This session will be provided by KHNA experts.

Participation of the CTAB on the FAO sessions titled « Navigating Sustainable Food Systems: Putting innovations into practices» in the OWC 2021

As part of the Organic World Congress (OWC) 2021 organized by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) in France, the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) represented by Mss. Jouhaina Riahi, the Multiplier Coach in KHNA project and Mss Khaoula Mokrani, the Regional Knowledge Manager within the same project, participated as ToT leaders, in the FAO virtual workshop titled « Navigating Sustainable Food Systems: Putting innovations into practices» on September 08, 2021.

This workshop was an opportunity for the EOALC continental leaders to participate actively in the organization and in the animation of FAO and the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE - France) sessions using the Innovators ‘handbook “Enabling Sustainable Food Systems”. The purpose of these sessions was to share innovative experiences in transforming local food systems.

Tunisia elected to host the Organic World Congress 2024

Tunisia has just been elected during the General Assembly "IFOAM - Organics International" to host the next Organic World Congress 2024.

Participation of the Technical Center for Organic Agriculture (CTAB) in the World Organic Congress (OWC 2021), organized by IFOAM

As part of the World Organic Congress (OWC 2021) organized by IFOAM in Rennes, France, the CTAB represented by Mr. Khaled Sassi, General Manager and National Coordinator of the KHNA Project, participated on September 09, 2021, in a virtual workshop on the validation and dissemination of organic knowledge in the various regional knowledge hubs in Africa.

This workshop was an opportunity for the African partners to present the knowledge management approach in the four regional knowledge hubs, the dissemination channels, the specific knowledge needs for organic agriculture, the knowledge validation process and the importance of involving a wide range of stakeholders in these processes.

In this context, an oral presentation concerning the "Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa - KHNA" was provided by Mr. Khaled Sassi.

Tunisia's application to host the Organic World Congress 2024

Tunisia has applied to the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) to host the next edition of the Organic World Congress 2024.

We are strongly counting on the support of IFOAM affiliates, in order to be able to participate in the vote which will be held electronically on September 14, 2021 during the IFOAM General Assembly. Vote for Tunisia!

Follow-up of a field trial on the adaptation of the cultivation of seasonal pepper in biodynamic mode

Thursday, August 05, 2021: Follow-up of a trial in organic Farm of Mr. Abdeljelil Hamrouni in Chorbène of the Governorate of Mahdia, with the collaboration and cooperation between the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) and the Regional Commissioner of Agricultural Development (CRDA) of Mahdia.

The trial consists of studying the adaptation of the seasonal pepper crop for biodynamic farming.

During this day, the planning of the pepper harvest was carried out according to the lunar calendar and the trial protocol.

Participation in the program "Mawassem Elkhir" on the national radio

On Sunday August 1st, 2021, Mr. Youssef Amor, general engineer and director of experiments and communication at the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) and Ms. Dalel Melki, principal engineer in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation and responsible of  laboratories participated in the national radio channel in the program "Mawassem Elkhir" by two interventions.

The first intervention was provided by Mr. Youssef Amor, who presented the activities of the CTAB. As for the second intervention, Mrs. Dalel Melki presented the establishment project of accredited laboratory in pesticide residues and contaminants analysis within the CTAB and their importance in organic agriculture.

A virtual meeting between the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) and the National Union of Operators of the Organic Sector (UNObio)

Under the supervision of the General Manager of the CTAB and the founders of UNObio, and the participation of some engineers of the CTAB, a virtual meeting was held on July 9, 2021. The participants discussed the means of collaboration so that the CTAB brings the technical support and accompaniment necessary for the farmers of the Bani Ayach agricultural development group in Korba (governorate of Nabeul) with the aim of producing and transforming organic spices. The members of this group benefit from the Souk El Kahina program, funded by the ENDA Foundation, which aims to create the first fair trade brand in Tunisia.

At the meeting it was also discussed joint cooperation channels in the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa project, which is supervised by CTAB.

Participation of the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) in an international networking meeting

As part of the project "Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Africa, KCOA", the CTAB has participated, in the presence of Mr. Khaled Sassi the General Manager and the National Coordinator of the KHNA Project, the experts and the project engineers in a virtual networking meeting organized by the GIZ.

The key objective of this event, which took place from July 5 to 9, 2021, was to bring together all the regional and international partners involved in the project in order to exchange knowledge and practices in the field of organic and ecological agriculture, to carry out discussions on the different activities and key achievements of the five knowledge hubs in Africa and to create synergies between the different key actors in the organic sector.

Participation in a virtual workshop to promote the organic dates derivatives as part of “PAMPAT” Project.

As part of the Project for Market Access of Typical Agro food Products (PAMPAT), the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) represented by Mr. Youssef Amor, Director of experimentation and communication and Mr. Haythem Elouaer, Head of studies, participated on 02/07/2021, in a virtual meeting on the promotion of the organic dates derivatives as part of “PAMPAT” Project. 

Representatives of agricultural structures, operators and stakeholders in the date sector also participated in this event.

This workshop was organized by the Interprofessional Group of Dates (GID) to promote organic date derivatives and define the actions and means 

to be implemented to develop the production and marketing of these products.

Field information day on the transformation and valorization of aromatic and medicinal plants in organic agriculture

As part of the project for the development of organic agriculture in the governorate of Gabes, the Technical Center of Organic Agriculture (CTAB) organized, in collaboration with the Regional Commissioner of Agricultural Development of Gabes (CRDA) a field information day on the transformation and valorization of organic aromatic and medicinal plants, for the benefit of a group of farmers.

During this day an intervention was presented by SOUGUIR Salaheddine (CTAB) then a practical session was animated on the extraction of essential oils from organic aromatic and medicinal plants.

Workshop “Training of Trainers (T.o.T 1) in "Communication Techniques & Leadership" in the Southern region of Tunisia

Within the framework of “Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa, KHNA” project, a first session of training of trainers was organized by the Technical Center for Organic Agriculture (CTAB) on June 23 and 24, 2021, at a hotel in Douz in the governorate of Kebili. The workshop was based on Soft Skills and leadership training for the benefit of 31 multipliers, including 13 women, from the South of Tunisia.

The Workshop was an opportunity to gather farmers, responsibles from different agricultural development groups, engineers, technicians and agricultural advisers to:

- Boost their communication and leadership skills to better disseminate knowledge in organic farming.

- Offer them diversified communication tools and different styles of educational facilitation.

- Discuss different topics of micro-interventions proposed by Project Experts.
