Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa
Let the Knowledge Flow:
For an integral and sustainable future of our environment and people
Vision
Organic agriculture plays a crucial role in overcoming hunger and malnutrition faced by large communities around the world. Sustaining organic agriculture provides permanent nutritive resources for future generations to feed a growing world population. To this end, the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in North Africa (KHNA) has been conceived to become an innovative network for promoting organic agriculture. It is one of five knowledge hubs for organic agriculture, which form part of the global project Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Africa (KCOA). The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Actors in the region include Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco.
The Hub provides important knowledge on organic agriculture for all people along the entire value chain. First and foremost, the project and its knowledge products target multipliers. These are people and organizations that further disseminate the knowledge on organic agriculture to other stakeholders. This means that this project shall not only reach for and benefit policy makers and big producers and processors, but also extends to model farmers, entrepreneurs and consumer organizations who are interested in learning more about organic agriculture and the benefits ensuing from its sustainability. By undertaking this project, we intend to reach as many people as possible as we strongly believe that it is in everybody’s interest to be part of the endeavor to make our future greener and brighter.
Sustainability does not only play a role in connection with the environment. The network is also guided by common principles and visions regarding a sustainable future of the economy as well as the social and cultural sphere. Accurate cost calculation, awareness of individual opportunities and development, as well as a holistic education are examples of these visions.
